Here Is What Your Farts Reveal About Your Digestive Health

Farting could be an embarrassing thing in public and it could also provide for a good laugh in comedies. But did you know that by understanding your farts, you could actually learn a great deal about your digestive health?

You might have previously wondered whether if stinky farts are unhealthy and whether farting too frequently means having good intestinal health. Here are what the smell and frequency of your fart could tell you about the overall health of your digestive system.

1. Stinky Farts

Stinky farts are pretty normal if you’re eating red meats, broccoli, cauliflower, beans or milk. This scent is usually a gas created when we break down foods with sulphur in it called hydrogen sulfide.

2. Extremely Stinky Farts

If you’re passing out gas that is simply unbearable, it could mean that there is an underlying intestinal health issue your body might be experiencing. To see what your body can’t take, try taking various foods and check out to see if the farts are extremely stinky. For example, if taking dairy results in passing unbearable smelling farts, then it might be an indication that your body could be lactose intolerant.

3. Scentless Farts

Scentless farts are perfectly normal. Sometimes the gasses that we pass out could be from the air we take in through our mouths or a fizzy drink. Just like “burps”, these gasses are just passing out from somewhere else.

4. Farting Frequently

If you find yourself farting frequently more than the advised 5-10 times a day, then it could mean that you’re suffering from excessive gas and bloating. Usually, when we fart too many times, it would come with discomfort and bloating. These are indications of a food allergy.

To test it out, take note of the frequency of your farts after each and every meal and the ingredients that are involved such as cheese, milk, nuts or gluten. If the frequency goes up and it is coupled with bloating, you might want to go for an allergy test see if you’re allergic to a particular ingredient.
